For the past few months, Oratto has been testing the UK’s first ever free 24/7 consumer-facing AI-powered legal advisor, developed by its technology partner, Simply.Law. It provides advice based on the laws of England & Wales by default but, if the user indicates a different location, e.g. Scotland, it can also advise on other legal jurisdictions.

Simply.Law, part of the Simply Technology Group, develops AI-driven legal software. It has developed the legal advisor solution using AI tools such as ChatGPT4.0 from OpenAI, exclusively for Oratto to use in the UK market (Simply.Law is also in active discussions to launch similar partnerships in other legal jurisdictions).

In our article “Live transcripts from an AI legal advisor – how am I doing? (Part 1)”, we discussed how this new service has been performing and began to share some transcripts of live conversations with real clients.

In Part 4, we are sharing a second anonymised client conversation regarding a vet negligence enquiry:

Client “A”

Hi I would like some advice regarding a Vet service that I use

Simply.Law Legal Advisor

Of course, I'd be happy to assist you with this. Could you please provide me with more details about the issue that you're facing with the vet service? For instance, is it related to a dispute over fees, dissatisfaction with the service provided, or something else? The more information you can provide, the better I'll be able to advise you.

Client “A”

We agreed £1,570 on the surgery day and we did a sainsbury pet insurance direct claim, they claimed £2,150 .

I asked information how did the price go up and it's very confusing their reply.

After the surgery, when I collected the dog the nurse didn't mentioned any complications,  only that the dog had 2 puppies stucked inside dead.  She has been very unprofessional, I was there with my kids 8 and 9 and laughing she said to them that the puppies were on their way to the crematorium going into the oven

-inflated the price

- unprofessional manners

Thank you

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It's important to understand that you have rights as a consumer when dealing with veterinarians. If you believe the fees charged are not what was agreed upon, you can challenge this. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has a code of professional conduct, which includes fee transparency and professional behaviour.

You can find more information here: https://www.rcvs.org.uk/setting-standards/advice-and-guidance/code-of-professional-conduct-for-veterinary-surgeons/supporting-guidance/veterinary-fees/

If you're not satisfied with their response, you can make a complaint to the RCVS. Here is the link to their complaints procedure: https://www.rcvs.org.uk/setting-standards/advice-and-guidance/code-of-professional-conduct-for-veterinary-surgeons/complaints-procedure/

Regarding the unprofessional behaviour, this too can be reported to the RCVS as it may breach their code of conduct.

Would you like me to help you draft a complaint letter or do you have any other questions?

Client “A”
